5 tips to successfully obtaining a graduate position with SW

SW Accountants & Advisors

  1. Take the lead and participate in our Summer Vacation Program

Our paid internship program offers you the opportunity to work one-on-one with SW clients and team members from day one. It is a great opportunity for you to dip your toes in the water of the accounting industry and provides you with a competitive advantage when applications open for our graduate program.

This program is five - six weeks in duration and commences in January. Click here for more information about this program.

  1. Familiarise yourself with our Firm’s Values

SW’s values underpin our firm’s culture and how we work together as a team. Familiarising yourself with our firms’ values will provide you with a good insight on how our firm operates and how our people interact with each other. A tip to standing out within the graduate application process is outlining how our values are in alignment with yours.

  1. Keep an eye out for when our Graduate Applications open on our website

The first step within our graduate application process is filling out an online application. This can be done via our SW website, within the Careers section. Additionally, signing up to GradAustralia’s alert system is a great way to remind you when our applications open.

When filling out the online application ensure that you attach all the relevant documentation including your resume, cover letter and academic transcript. Do not leave this process to the last minute as any pending applications will not be accepted by the People & Culture Department.

  1. Being prepared is the best way to stand out in the interview:

Your first interview with SW will be with a member of the People & Culture team. We understand that the interview process can be nerve wracking so here are a few helpful tips which can ensure you stand out amongst your peers.

  • Being punctual and appropriately dressed to your interview is essential. Additionally, you should be able to articulate why you believe SW is the right firm for you and what skills set you will bring to the team.
  • You will not be able to prepare for every question asked and this is okay! Take your time answering behavioural questions and demonstrate how you can logically problem solve in difficult scenarios.
  • If the interviewer believes you are a good fit for the firm, you will proceed to a partner interview and subsequently graduate offers will be made.
  1. It’s all about having the right attitude:

Our last tip is to have the right attitude throughout the application process. We are looking for graduates who have a willingness to learn and have a desire to try new things. Kick-starting your career as a SW Graduate will be extremely rewarding both professionally and personally. Show us your excitement and eagerness to be a member of our team within the recruitment process.
