5 tips from Tata to score your first graduate role

Tata Consultancy Services Australia and New Zealand

At Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), we don’t just offer jobs, we offer careers. The TCS Graduate Program offers you a wide variety of positions across different emerging technologies like AI, Deep Learning and Machine Learning, Data and Decision Sciences, Robotics and Life Sciences. So, what are you waiting for?

Here are 5 tips to score your first graduate role:

1. Tailor your application

To set yourself apart from other graduate applicants, you should always tailor your application to the company and role that you’re applying for. Applicants who have done their research on the company and tailor their application by including previous experience and skills relevant to the position will be noticed by recruiters. By including this information, you make it clear to the recruiter that you can bring all the necessary skills and qualities to the company and more, demonstrating your potential to add value to the organisation.

2. Give examples

When outlining what attributes and qualities you possess, make sure you provide examples from your working experience as well as your day-to-day life and extracurricular activities. For example, a candidate who says they have great organisational skills will have demonstrated this by making lists for action items, following up on actions, meeting deadlines, demonstrating multitasking, etc—perhaps while volunteering for a community initiative. Applicants who have their skills and values aligned with the company are more likely to be successful at interview.

3. Be self-aware

It’s important to know yourself and your abilities. Have confidence in your skills and knowledge, but also be aware of what you lack and want to improve on. Applicants who have goals and ambitions for professional and personal growth leave a better impression than candidates who just want to get their foot in the door.

4. Positive attitude

As a graduate, your attitude can make or break your success in application, at interview and in the job. You should bring a positive and hard-working attitude every single day. Always be adaptable and flexible with a hunger to learn from your peers and managers—they will notice your dedication.

5. Persevere

Most graduate programs can receive hundreds of applicants and only take on a handful, depending on business and project needs. Keep applying, your perseverance will serve you well when you eventually secure a role.

About the TCS Graduate Program

Our grad program differentiates itself from others by offering graduates a career rather than a job. We do this by providing an online training system that’s accessible anytime, anywhere. Graduates can learn skills outside of their role regarding any programs or software so that they’re ready for any changes in technology or industry, keeping themselves relevant. TCS graduates are flexible and adaptable, getting access to a variety of projects as required by the client. If the client’s needs change, so will the work and projects for the graduates. No two days will be the same!
