  • Everyone is so supportive and passionate about what they do! Everyone loves to help, no one has ever made me feel silly for asking a question or not understanding.
  • A lot of exposure to different areas and teams in the business, can work with a lot of technologies and the culture here is amazing!
  • Not having as much flexibility in having rest days. For example, many other companies are allowing employees to take a rest day each month, while others are allowing staff to take off a day every week or fortnight. This would help individuals with family commitments or just getting things done (e.g. servicing car, appointments, etc.).
  • Sometimes, things are a little bit slow as there are a lot of things that go through higher ups.

It is hard for me to comment, I feel as though most career progression here is self driven. I have noticed some of my colleagues are subtly encouraging me to step up and offer solutions more. Managers are very open to discuss that progression process and have chats about what we need in order to step up though. As a company I do get the feel that they are quite loyal to its employees and if senior leaders leave they do like to try and fill the gap with someone who knows the business and the team if possible.

My favourite thing about carsales has always been the culture. From being an intern and now a graduate, I have a great appreciation for how well suited carsales are for juniors. The best way to grow and improve your skills is to step outside your comfort zone and to be challenged but for it to be successful you also need to feel supported. Carsales provides the challenge and encouragement as well as the support along the way. They have done a superb job of hiring people that fit the culture, every time I work with someone new I am always shocked by how supportive, genuine and passionate these people are. These people are what have taught me to love being challenged. Fear of failure is non-existent here; if we fail, we learn from it and take those learnings with us to create success. We also love our Friday lunches, lunchtime running groups or HIIT on the oval.

The flexible working hours would make it a great environment for parents, particularly women returning to the workforce that may still have to bear the brunt of children caring duties. On top of this they offer leave for secondary carers which helps to encourage a more even divide of caring duties in families. They do have a wonderful women in tech group as well that focuses on trying to encourage women to stay in tech, improve their skills and move up the ranks. The tech team is very diverse in terms of ethnicity. They do put a lot of effort into encouraging women and girls into tech as well.

Just had a refurb which has brightened up the spaces. Desks are ample in size, we have a caddy to store our stuff in, the opportunity for a standing desk if you have any injuries or are prone to poor posture. We also have new shower facilities in our basement with towel services which make it a lot easier if you like to get some exercise in during lunchtimes.
