What I love most about my job is the exposure it gave me to corporate life and all the knowledge that came with it such as time management to keep up with deadlines

What's your job about?

My employer is an insurance brokerage for small to large clients and my responsibilities include assisting my team with new business, administration and general management of existing client base.

My daily work includes working with senior account managers on existing customers regarding renewals, endorsements, quoting. I also assist with placing new business with Gallagher and prepare quotations and placing slips for clients.

Does a teenager understand what you are doing? State any kind of interesting details!

Possibly, however they would need to understand how insurance works to some degree to understand completely. There is a process to how insurance brokers approach and manage clients that may be difficult to understand straight away

What's your background?

I grew up in Hills Shire and went to Cherrybrook Technology HS. After this I went UNSW to complete a Finance and Management double major in Commerce. I was able to get this job through a recruitment company, for a 1.5 year program. The program is currently in its last rotation and I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in the Cyber team.

Could someone with a different background do your job?

This job I believe can be done by anyone from different backgrounds as many of Gallagher’s current employees fit this category. To be successful in this job, organisation and time management is key as well as an approachable and determined attitude towards clients and insurers to get the best outcome for clients while maintaining insurer relationships.

What's the coolest thing about your job?

What I love most about my job is the exposure it gave me to corporate life and all the knowledge that came with it such as time management to keep up with deadlines, many of the risks that businesses of various scale face and how insurance plays its part, and how to work with insurers to provide clients with the best outcomes in difficult market conditions

What are the limitations of your job?

This job does bear some responsibilities that senior staff will delegate to you, however these tasks are quite manageable in a normal week. There are rarely tasks that demand many hours continuously while there is always help from senior colleagues. For anyone who likes to have a lot of responsibility, this job may initially may not be the right fit as it is more of an assisting role that you will play to the team you are part of. However, this is expected while you’re learning the industry and processes involved, so that after the program, candidates will be more suited to taking on additional responsibilities.
