6.30 AM

I like to squeeze something productive into my morning routine, this usually means a bit of exercise or study. This morning I am doing some study for my upcoming Chartered Accountant exam.

8.00AM

I finish off my study and get ready to ride my bike to the Grant Thornton office, which is located in Adelaide CBD. It’s a beautiful ride along the River Torrens which takes me all the way into the city.

The Grant Thornton office has great end of trip facilities so I can store my bike, shower, change and get ready to for the working day ahead.

8.45 AM

We do hot-desking in the office so I pick my desk, log-in to my computer, check my emails, check my calendar for any upcoming meetings, trainings or events and begin to plan my workflow for the day.

9.30 AM

Around this time on a Monday morning our team meets up to discuss workflow. This is a great opportunity to discuss my workflow with my managers and create a plan of attack for the week to come.  

After the meeting it’s time for me to start smashing out some work! I am working on a number of tax compliance engagements for our larger corporate clients at the moment. This requires me to prepare financial statements, income tax provisions and income tax returns for the different groups. I work through the jobs while compiling a list of queries I come across to discuss with my manager and the client.

11.00 AM

Coffee time! I head to the kitchen with my team to grab a coffee, have a snack and take a break. I have some casual banter about the weekend with my team before heading back to my desk.

12.30 PM

Time for lunch! Today we are having a team strategy meeting in the board room and food is provided, one of the perks of a lunch time meeting!

2.00 PM

I have organised an informal meeting with my manager to discuss some of my queries on a compliance project we are working on together.

4.00 PM

I spend the rest of the day working through the compliance jobs I have on the go and respond to emails or taking any phone calls that come up.

4.50 PM

I now begin to finish up for the day, time flew by with my busy day of meetings! I submit my timesheet, say goodbye to my team and head home for the night!
