Application Process & Interviews at MYOB

9.1
9.1 rating for Recruitment, based on 15 reviews
Please describe the interview process and assessments.
Graduates apply via our ATS and go through two stages via our testing provider Sova and then a final stage interview online with our team. At every stage of the way we tailor our communication ensuring they always know what is happening and what stage they are at (or if unsuccessful). Our assessments include videos of us speaking with them to allow human interaction and bulk address. Making sure they are feeling empowered and humanised. Our questions are aligned to our behaviours we’d expect to see for associate developers in MYOB.

After screening video interview, the main interview was a problem solving interview. Very engaging, different interview which made me much more excited and less nervous about the prospect of working at this company. Part of the reason I took this particular job was their hiring approach.

The process was so smooth and Kristina was really awesome to go through. She made everything so easy and kept us in the loop at every stage.

3 phases: 1- online intelligence test 2- online interview (where you are given a question then you have to record yourself answering the question) 3- face to face "technical" interview (not actually technical but tends to be conducted by senior devs and assess your ability to think logically, take feedback and ask questions)

The company has a 100% circle back policy. And there was a few steps: 1) Online assessment (numeracy, literacy, logical reasoning, aptitude). After the assessment, I received a report which informed me how I did compared to others. That gave me a good insight about myself. 2) Q&A - 5 questions with 2 mins for each answer. Because it was during COVID all steps were done virtually. 3) Problem solving system design thinking question - I was nervous, but I find the problem very creative and I got into it fairly quickly. I really enjoyed that session.

1) Online psychometric tests. 2) Online interview with timed response (2 mins each question) to a series of questions (example - tell us about a situation when you have received negative feedback. What steps did you take to action this feedback?) 3) Online problem solving interview with 2 interviewers - asked to whiteboard a solution for a given problem.

Whilst it was a long wait, about 5 months it had a multifaceted focus. Less on technical capabilities and more on how well we can work in a team environment.

What questions were you asked in your interviews?
What do they know about MYOB and our Grad Program, times they have faced adversity and how they have grown from there

In the pre-recorded video interview the standard soft skill questions about a time when we worked in a team and whatnot. In the main interview we talked through a hypothetical problem and discussed different approaches to solving this problem.

Genera motivational questions (e.g. describe yourself, what stands out to you about the company) as well as a problem solving component.

We had to complete an assessment, answer some video questions and the final interview was a lot of fun. It was problem solving and really made you think. But the team at FMA made me feel so comfortable.

some of them were: tell us your journey on how you got to where you are today? what misconception to people have about you? what does curiosity mean for you?

For the second stage, it was questions generic questions eg What are you grateful for? What problem did you experience in your past workpalce and how did you solve it? Can't remember all questions.

Tell us about a situation when you have received negative feedback. What steps did you take to action this feedback?

- Online video interview that were in response to job-related questions, you had 2 minutes after reading a question to answer. eg, -- What most interests you about the graduate program? -- Tell us about a time you had to deal with conflict in a work environment. - SOVA assessment which included analytical, verbal reasoning, numerical reasoning and logical reasoning questions. - 1hr problem solving task with senior engineers present. Asked to mind-map and write or draw out how to solve a complex, non technical problem. -- How would you organise the workflow for a factory building multi-coloured different shaped wooden blocks? This factory only uses primitive tools, no technology can be used and they source the wood from a forest nearby.

Do you have any specific tips and advice for candidates applying to your company? How would you recommend they best prepare?
Yea, we provide candidates with a FAQ one pager prior to going through the process and this is built from feedback from grads as they enter when we ask them ‘what they wished they knew before starting’

Just be your authentic self and relax. It feels like the kind of process where they find people who fit a certain mould in terms of mindset and attitude over experience. i.e. showing a willingness to tackle an unseen problem, communicating well and having a growth mindset. This is opposed to over places which may over value technical skill and ability to answer common coding problems.

Research the company and work on soft-skills. The technical tests were basic-level so no stress.

Just be yourself and don't over think anything.

If you haven't done an intelligence test before you should practice some. You might not pass purely because you weren't used to they type of questions it asks, not that you couldn't do it. Also when it comes to the online interview it's better to provide a succinct concise (maybe 30 secs )answer that clearly answers the question rather than just ramble on because you think you need to fill the whole 2 minutes they provide for you to talk.
