Culture at Optus

8.3
8.3 rating for Culture, based on 52 reviews
Please describe your company's culture both in the office and after hours. Let us know about the structure and hierarchy, cooperation and teamwork, and socialising amongst colleagues.
From the beginning I have easily been able communicate and ask questions, and never felt out of place despite being a minority. We have also always been encouraged to reach out to SLT to ask questions and set up meetings if we have enquiries, I have found this is fairly easy to do and our SLT are usually always happy to have a coffee.

Company culture is great. There is a focus on learning and development that keeps everyone energised and informed. My immediate team is filled with hungry, like-minded individuals who constantly work to be their best. Even when it gets busy, people are more than willing to flex in where they can and support each other. Events are fun, with enough detail to keep corporate strategy pinned to day-to-day activities.

The culture is great. The position in the hierarchy doesn't impact the how heard people's opinions are. Members of the wider team are always happy to give advice or help out on projects that they have expertise in. The social culture is also great, people are always happy to socialise with anyone in the team and there are relatively frequent events.

The culture at Optus is great, there are many opportunities to network within and outside of office hours. My department isn't too strict on corporate clothing, so the people in m area is very casual, allowing a more welcoming atmosphere to network with.

Work culture is great during work hours. We have squad lunches and team days, where we get to spend time socialising and doing fun activities outside of work. I can't comment much about after work hours, as I don't see my colleagues outside of work hours.

Optus' culture in the office: Pretty good, employees are generally quite friendly and willing to help. In some business units, there might be a stronger sense of hierarchy. Some people might have a stronger sense of ego, which is a double-edged sword (Their strong self-confidence will drive them to deliver work but sometimes they might need to let go of their ego so they are willing to not only receive help but also to help others). Optus' culture in after hours: Can't comment because I haven't worked outside of standard working hours i.e. 9am to 5pm.

Culture at Optus is great. Awesome opportunities to meet people outside of work hours and constant events, team activities to be social. Optus operates a no door/ open door policy for those high up to place emphasis on not having an intense hierarchal structure and people above myself being accessible.

The culture at the company is fairly good, however with regards to taking leave at the end of the year, the pressure that is placed on employees is very high and is of really poor behaviour, as employees should have full autonomy on when they are able to take leave, to meet the diverse lifestyles spread across Optus. In my team, the structure is a bit unbalanced with their being a lot of people under one person. Ideally the spread of engineers under the manager should be split up so that there is more focus and direction with regards to the work being conducted in the subteams.

I think the culture has declined since I've joined. I think trust deteoriated after the cyber attack and Optus is very siloed and political.

For the most part, amazing people. I believe there is an increasing degree of hierarchy that impedes speaking up. Additionally, significant change across the organisation has resulted in people becoming distracted, disheartened or just disinterested in day-to-day work. However, there are teams that are brilliant and full of hard-working people who want the organisation to succeed.

The culture is ok - good but could be better. Some teams I have worked with have been a pleasure to work with in terms of cooperation and teamwork, others have been difficult with bare minimum cooperation. The social aspect of working at Optus is good, most people are friendly and open to catching up.

Culture is okay - we are recommended and they want us to come into the office 3 days a week which doesn't work for everyone with different life circumstances as it should be what you produce not where you produce, and when I come into the office I end up going on my laptop and hopping to teams anyways.

The structure is fairly hierarchical and most work activities are performed as a result of directives from above, and need approval from the senior leadership. Although it depends on the individual, there can be a lack of teamwork or a reluctance to take ownership of tasks unless your requests are escalated to senior leadership. However socially, my co-workers are friendly and amenable, but limited interactions outside of work hours.

Senior staff are very accessible for junior staff and grads. Open courtyard office enables a great place to mingle across functions and seniority

There is currently a lot of change taking place across the company which leads to uncertainty and can negatively affect the company culture. However, everyone has been really supportive during this time. My past couple of teams have been great, with good leadership as a role model and inclusive teammates. We have an open kitchen where all teams can socialise during lunch. This has been a great way to socialise among colleagues, without talking about work.

In my experience the culture has been friendly, fun, and informal both during and after hours. The people I work with are genuinely kind and supportive and not afraid to have fun, but ultimately knuckle down when it's needed. There are occasionally team dinners, team lunches, etc. I have heard different stories through that in other parts of the business, the culture is a bit less involved. Still good, but comparatively less fun/personable.

Graduates have an extremely supportive and social culture that extends to after-hours activities. Management provides an extremely supportive environment which encourages Graduates to further their leaning, have responsibility on meaningful projects and engage in amazing opportunities.

My colleagues do a lot of out of work socialising. We also eat lunch together which is really nice and has allowed me to get to know everyone really well.

Most people are absolutely lovely. After hours, no culture, which I prefer. I like to have work life balance.
