8.8 rating for Diversity, based on 52 reviews
Please provide further information on diversity with respect to women, ethnic minorities and LGBT. Please comment on issues such as recruitment, retention, promotion, child care, maternity leave, etc.
As a company I would say we are very diverse. We have a women as our CEO as well as minorities in many leadership positions, therefore it doesn't seem like a barrier for promotions. As someone who is a minority and has a disability, I felt very respected during my recruitment and by my managers.

We regularly celebrate diversity, I have been to a number of events that are aimed at celebrating and raising awareness of different communities on our campus.

There is an employee network specifically for women at Optus for them to develop their leadership skills and public-speaking skills etc. Optus has tried to achieve a gender balance when it comes to graduate recruitment. But as you move up the career ladder, there is more and more gender imbalance (particularly in the executive level)

Optus is extremely respectful and diverse in various ways. There are various groups to join, everyone is well respected and there are various procedures in place for people to have their say if they feel things should be different.

Optus has a strongly intersectional approach to diversity which spans all areas of society including disabilities, gender, LGBTQIAA+, race and ethnicity, parents, veterans, Aboriginals, and age. Optus should be very proud of this

Optus appears to have intentions to improve diversity, however there is not enough diversity in the senior leadership team

Definitely a desire to make it aware, however not outright supporting initiatives such as the Voice was a massive disappointment which encouraged the opposite of diversity.

We have specific communities/networks that run events and speaking sessions to celebrate and educate for women, cultural minorities and the LGBTQIA+ community, each of which are chaired and endorsed by a member of the SLT. There are targets in recruitment but we could always do more. They are flexible around child care in the school holidays and for school pick-ups and drop offs.

The company has a serious focus on diversity. There are pockets where this is stronger and weaker, reflecting the natural patterns you would find in STEM based areas.

I believe the company are trying to understand our diversity in order to put more initiatives in place to be inclusive. We have great employee networks which support those in minority groups and raise awareness to different events throughout the year. However, with such high populations of mainstream diversity, there is a while to go.

Optus is really quite authentically commited to DE&I. I can;t think of any examples but the culture is strong.

Some teams are fantastic with diversity while other teams are extremely homogenous. As a whole, I think the company is very diverse, but there are definitely some teams that tend to hire a very specific type of person. While everyone is still very lovely, you find there are some moments you can see the lack of diversity lead to some offhand comments that may make some minority groups (gender identity, ethnicity etc.) uncomfortable.

They truly do care about diversity in all forms and to making work easy and accessible for everyone.

Optus 100% puts a major focus on actively promoting a diverse culture, as the best companies have diverse people. I think we still have a long way to go in certain areas like women in software roles, but Optus seems to be always making steps in the right direction.
