Jarid Kolver

As a graduate, I have the freedom to take on my own projects, as well as shadow some of the more experienced staff in their endeavours.

4.30 AM

Wake up and get ready for an exciting day onsite at Orora Revesby.

5.55 AM

When I arrive at Revesby, I attend the shift daily direction-setting meeting. This is an important chance to gather all the current information about the plant from the outgoing shift during the handover process. I also read over the shift reports from the previous 24 hours to ensure I am aware of how the plant is running.

6.30 AM

I create some goals for myself and the engineering + trades team to complete for the day. We have a daily morning meeting to discuss maintenance and continuous improvement projects, after this meeting everybody’s work is aligned and planned for the day.

7.30 AM

Our Integrated Work Systems team holds their daily direction-setting meeting at this time every day. We discuss our top losses and top stops for the previous 24 hours and create focused actions on how to stop the stops and remove the losses. These vary on a day-to-day basis so it’s a great opportunity to practice some problem-solving and diversify your working day. I can volunteer to help work / take ownership of any actions during this meeting.

8.00 AM

I go to the onsite canteen for breakfast, it’s a great time to sit and socialize with the very diverse and friendly group of people working here.

8.30 AM

From 8.30 am I really start to get stuck into my main tasks for the day. The work is so diverse that these tasks vary every day, from helping the trades team design and implement solutions on projects to discussing process improvements with the management team. As a graduate, I have the freedom to take on my own projects, as well as shadow some of the more experienced staff in their endeavours.

This gives me a really good idea of the direction I need to head in personally, as well as the general direction of the plant. The graduate program rotates through many sectors of the business allowing me to fully grasp the challenges of day-to-day operation, as well as long-term goals and improvements. This is generally my favorite time of the day as I’m able to really get stuck on a project.

My most recent projects include redesigning the vacuum mist extraction system at our decorator (where we print the labels on the cans) and reviewing our line control processes in one of our conveyor systems. These are two areas I didn’t have much knowledge on before but the vast array of experience of my coworkers helped me implement beneficial solutions with real-time results.

12.30 PM

Time for lunch at the canteen. I normally sit outside in the sun at the picnic tables with some of the team, but there are also some quiet spaces you can sit and enjoy some time to yourself if you’d like.

1.30 PM

The Integrated Work Systems team has their daily review meeting to recap the daily actions, as well as create any follow-up actions which will need to be completed in the future. We will then use our remaining time for the day to ensure the plant is in good condition for the overnight shift to take over.

I also then review my own goals for the day, to ensure I have completed everything I set out for myself, as well as created follow-up actions / escalated anything I was unable to. I make sure my work has been communicated to the team effectively, so everyone is aware of changes that have been implemented.

2.30 PM

Home time!

Starting at 6.00 am means I get to finish my working day early in the afternoon. This gives me the ability to spend most of my personal time outdoors enjoying the beach or exercising (and no rush hour traffic).
