Training & Personal Development at Victoria's Big Build

I have completed technical engineering training and soft-skill training multiple times in the last year.

Internal training programs and also ability to engage with external trainings. Often have presentations from other authorities. Lots of options for training outside of your specific area e.g. wellbeing trainings

Graduate students receive continuous development program.

I have been offered all the training I need at this stage of my career to progress and learn new skills.

Various training are provided

The project has lots of optional training available. Within the graduate program, there is important training that continues throughout the entire two years.

There are many training options available and so far I have applied for a few of the general ones. Over the course of the graduate program we are provided with a "Graduate Learning Series" which consists of scheduled days (and on occasions weeks) of developmental courses aiming to improve each graduate's career prospects for the future. One thing that would make the training and development offerings even greater would be specific programs for certain disciplines, for example I have to ask around to find out more about Microsoft Azure training which I only know exists because of previous educational experience.

There are heaps of training opportunities including in Communications, Land and Planning, Time Managements and Workplace Health and Safety. However, some of the training can seem irrelevant.

We have had a range of training around our particular field, for engineering we have all been provided the training to get our rail induction and white cards for site. We also have technical workshops with senior people at the company to improve our overall understanding.

We have constant graduate training, every month or so. It's fine, but mostly engineering based and I haven't found much of it really helps.

Training often goes too long for the content. All training has been for professional skills rather than technical.

There are a lot of training opportunities I have picked up a number of technical and soft skills.

The training at my project is exceptional and one of the highlights of both the organisation and the grad program. Dedicated learning weeks for grads, including professional development and CERT IV training is including in the program. My project also provides learning modules to develop professionally, as well as 'Lunch and Learns' where a subject expert will spend an hour teaching employees about a specific part of the organisation (I.E tunnel boring machines).

Plenty of opportunities for training and upskilling

Plenty of formal and informal training opportunities.

The amount of training offered at the project surprised me. As a grad, we receive professional and interpersonal development training called the 'graduate learning series'. In my project we also complete a Cert 4 in Work Health and Safety. I have also completed a First Aid course, as well as training that has furthered my writing and comms skills.

Lots of opportunities not always relevant however

Well structured training on all sorts of things, writing skills, presentations, 101 in different areas.

There's an ongoing training program in the graduate program that builds your communication skills and your understanding of the construction and rail industry as a whole. In addition, you're exposed to parts of the business you may never work in, so you get a well-rounded appreciation of the company.
