About this course

The Bachelor of Creative Arts – Visual Arts (Honours) (Mildura) is intended to foster a spirit of excellence in practice-led studio-based research. Students undertake a major self-directed project, produced under supervision, which concludes with an end-of-year exhibition supported by a minor exegesis. The Program encourages students to develop their practice and to become risk-takers in their field of artistic inquiry. It supports students working across many artistic disciplines, including sculpture and installation-based practices,  painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, video and ceramics. The Program is designed to meet the needs of students who seek a higher intellectual and professional achievement by creating a strong studio-practice culture underpinned by theoretical and critical studies. Students will learn skills to conduct research within a practice-led environment and develop complex conceptual frameworks for their practice. By the end of the Program students will have developed advanced skills in making, writing about and presenting their work for a public audience. A spirit of excellence and a strong sense of independent enquiry is the emphasis of the course. Experimentation  and risk-taking is encouraged. Upon successful completion of a three-year Bachelor of Creative Arts degree or equivalent, a candidate may apply to undertake the Honours program. Applicants will be admitted to the Honours degree after the successful assessment of their research proposal by Visual Arts staff and provided that they have achieved an average B grade (70% or higher) in the third year of their pass degree. Applicants must discuss their proposal with a potential supervisor before submitting their final application.
