The Intern Diaries: Sean's Journey from Intern to Recruitment Consultant

Fuse Recruitment

"I have always loved recruitment because of Fuse and the people in the team. The culture, flexibility, and management here are one of a kind!"

My name is Sean Ghadri, and I am now a Senior Recruitment Consultant in the Melbourne insurance and wealth management team.

I started at Fuse as an Intern in the Brisbane utilities team, but during my internship, I felt that the insurance sector was more aligned to my interests.

"After finishing my internship, I began working permanently for Fuse as a Recruitment Consultant in the Brisbane insurance & wealth management team."

Soon after, I decided to move to Melbourne. Fuse, however, gave me the option to transfer to their Melbourne office and continue working with them! I’ve been a part of the Melbourne insurance & wealth management team ever since.

Prior to starting as an Intern with Fuse, I was studying a Bachelor of Clinical Psychology, minoring in Neuroscience. I decided to apply at Fuse as I was interested in gaining experience in a professional services environment, and the rest is history.

My first few weeks as an Intern were challenging due to my lack of professional services experience. However, the team at Fuse helped me overcome these challenged and answered any questions I had.

Getting on the phone to call candidates was an aspect of the internship that was quite difficult to adapt to in the first few weeks, but it became easier as time went by. I was working with a direct supervisor who was happy to help every step of the way, which made me feel comfortable in my role as a Recruitment Consultant later on!

In my internship, I learned how to interview candidates, how to negotiate, how to pre-screen candidates on the phone, and how to use our CRM and other software.

"This helped me build a strong foundation to leverage when I became a Recruitment Consultant."

Personally, the biggest challenge I had during my internship was that I was living in the Gold Coast at the time, meaning I had a two-hour drive each way to work during peak hour. After I received a job offer from Fuse, I decided to move to Brisbane so that I could focus on my new role and make sure I am putting in everything I can.

After finishing my internship, my role as a Recruitment Consultant was a 360 position, meaning I was responsible for business development, candidate resourcing, account management, and more!

"I have always loved recruitment because of Fuse and the people in the team. The culture, flexibility, and management here are one of a kind!"

No two days are the same due to the different conversations you’d be involved in with your candidates and the various challenges you’ll have to face on your way to a placement.

I’m currently working as a Senior Recruitment Consultant, managing a team of 2 Recruitment Resourcers. I am also responsible for business development in the wealth management space, following the strategy laid out by Fuse management. In my role, I mainly liaise with clients regarding new positions available at their businesses and consult them on the different solutions available.

"I’m so grateful for the opportunities Fuse has given me and can’t wait to see what the future holds!"
