What it does:  We are a pioneering engineering and construction company established in 1919 in Perth, Western Australia.

Mission:  We strive for the best in everything we do and always find solutions when plans need to be challenged.

Size and presence: Today, we manage a global workforce of over 2000 people from operating centers across Australia, Asia Pacific, the UK, and North America that strive for the best in everything, setting new safety and performance benchmarks every single day.

Best known for Clough is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Murray & Roberts, a multinational group that focuses its expertise on delivering sustainable and fit-for-purpose project engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, operations, and maintenance solutions.

The good bits: Compensation comparable to industry, friendly coworkers.

The not-so-good bits: Politics; middle managers have too many direct reports.

The Clough story

From inception through to the 1950s, Clough forged a reputation as a quality construction company in its development of schools and residential and commercial properties throughout Perth. In the 50s, Clough would diversify its services to include civil and engineering contracting. Diversification was again the order of the day in the 60s, as Clough entered and embraced the Mining and Energy industries. Today, Clough works with many of the world’s largest companies to provide engineering, construction, commissioning, and asset support services for some of the largest, and most challenging resource projects around the globe.

Culture & vibe

We believe diversity brings broader knowledge, perspectives, ideas, and experiences to our business, which is invaluable to us and our clients.

Our workforce consists of people from a wide range of cultures, backgrounds, and skills. This diversity is what makes Clough a great place to work. We aim to attract, train and retain people who:

  • Live Clough’s principles as their own,
  • Are highly capable, and
  • Have a desire to actively contribute to the success of the business.

We want to ensure that the engineering and construction industry provides a workplace where everyone feels valued through an inclusive environment that accepts every person, embraces their strengths and their differences, and provides opportunities for everyone to achieve their full potential. We are working hard to ensure our workplace culture embraces the expectations set by our society.

In February 2020 Clough’s first Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) was endorsed by Reconciliation Australia. The RAP outlines and supports Clough’s vision and contribution to reconciliation both internally in the business, and in the communities in which it operates.

Our operations are backed by the skills and values of veterans from all walks of life across the Army, Navy, Air Force, First Responders, and Cadets. Clough is a proud signatory of the Veterans Employment Commitment

Clough’s motivation for diversity is to create a culture that embraces and encourages diversity as it remains one of Clough’s key principles.

We are supported by strong systems and processes that produce consistently excellent outcomes for our safety, the environment, people, and financial goals.

  • While Clough has core business hours, we promote flexibility by encouraging you and your manager to work together to define how best to balance your commitments and working hours. Options include part-time and other flexible working options, such as working from home, where practical.

Social Contributions

Zero Harm to our people, the environment, and the communities in which we work.

Clough is committed to providing an environment that enables our employees to achieve our vision of Zero Harm. This environment encourages a safety culture supported by training and tools so working safely is the natural thing to do. In this environment, our people have the right and duty to say no to any task that they do not feel is safe. Accountability is with us all.

Our Target Zero program provides the policies and systems to ensure all staff takes responsibility and care for their teammates and the communities and environments in which we work.

Safety is a value on which we never compromise. While Clough’s safety performance is significantly better than the global contracting industry average, we continue to work towards a workplace that is incident and injury free by driving safety leadership accountability and developing our people.

Clough’s Major Accident Prevention (MAP) brings offshore safety case principles to the onshore construction environment. By analyzing activities with potential for major accidents or events, and implementing critical controls, MAP provides lifesaving tools to provide real-time, line of sight management of potential major hazards.
