The hunt for finding the right candidate and celebrating the wins. When you book an interview or actually make a placement, the rush is insane! It makes you feel really good and to top it off you have also found someone a new job.

What's your job about?

Hudson is a recruitment agency that specialises in assisting with the search of providing the appropriate talent to clients that we interact with. My responsibilities are to ensure that this is done in an effective manner whilst also maintaining transparency throughout every step of this process.

I am a Recruitment Specialist for Business Analysts within the finance and banking sector.

I focus on areas such as Risk Transformation, Process Improvement, Institutional Banking, Consumer & Business Banking, Data, Technical,  Financial Crime, Wealth, Insurance, and Superannuation. The type of roles I recruited for and candidates I help are Senior Business Analysts, Business Analysts, Lead / Principal Business Analysts, and BA Managers.

My average day obviously starts with a morning coffee, followed by a quick 15-minute meeting with the team so we are all up to date with each other’s progress with roles, business development, who we’ve met from a client perspective etc. Afterwards, I check in with candidates to see who is open to new opportunities, making plenty of phone calls and hearing everyone’s unique situation. After this, if I have roles on, I will refer these candidates to the client if their skillsets match. Following this, it is all about managing the process and being on top of everything. From arranging interviews to scheduling phone calls/meetings, remaining organised is key in my role. I normally close out the day by tying up loose ends and ensuring that I leave no stones unturned going into tomorrow.

Think of your favourite athlete, imagine if you got to manage them and had a part to play in which club/organisation they are going to be at next. If their skillset aligns, it is your responsibility to take care of him/her!

What's your background?

I’ve grown up in Western Sydney, the Bankstown area to be exact. I live with my family (Mum, Dad, 2 younger sisters and 2 cats). I finished primary school in 2012, started high school in 2013 and finished in 2018, attended Western Sydney Uni from 2019-2021, and from 2019-2021 I also worked at Rebel Sport as a sales assistant. I am also a current rugby league player and have been playing for the past 15 years throughout my childhood.

I have been with Hudson for 9 months now, I had my last uni exam on the 11th and started on the 15th of November. I applied through Seek whilst procrastinating on a Uni assignment!

My love for the sport has always been immense. The passion and desire to win, that competitive nature, can definitely be translated into this job as the market can be quite competitive.

I like to lead and being the school captain as well as captain of my team has assisted me in realising my potential within the job!

I have also been dealing with a torn ACL. After recently having surgery after waiting for 14 months due to Covid, the challenges associated with this have definitely provided me with valuable life lessons and I cannot be more grateful to Hudson for being so cooperative throughout my journey.

Could someone with a different background do your job?

I believe to be a recruiter you need to have the desire to want to do well. Being goal-driven is definitely advantageous, as well as being a team player. Certainly, someone with a different background can do my job, however, patience and the ability to not give up are key in this role.

What's the coolest thing about your job?

The chase! The hunt for finding the right candidate and celebrating the wins. When you book an interview or actually make a placement, the rush is insane! It makes you feel really good and to top it off you have also found someone a new job. That to me is the coolest thing, the ability to help an individual find their next role and to help the client fill a position they need to complete their organisational goals.

What are the limitations of your job?

The fact that you do need lots of patience. There are lots of things that may not work out in the process, hence why the wins feel so good. There are lots of people involved in the decision of moving to a new job, so getting everyone in the agreement can be a challenge.

3 pieces of advice for yourself when you were a student...

  1. Don’t rush into anything you aren’t entirely happy with.
  2. Trust your gut and ignore outside noise when making choices for yourself
  3. Accept help when it is offered, and never turn someone away for wanting to help
