Pros & Cons

  • Opportunity to delve into diverse business units, within an excellent working culture and environment that prioritises work-life balance and wellbeing and people who are always happy to help and support.
  • RACV provides extensive opportunities to learn and develop professional skills.
  • There are many opportunities to work collaboratively across departments to develop a broad and diverse skillset.
  • The culture is great, everybody is willing to help and find ways to solve data related issues.
  • The best thing about working at this company is the overwhelming support as a graduate and the number of different opportunities to be gained or to take on.
  • It's not necessarily a negative, but I find that a bit of extra time has to go into pieces of work that involve more than one department. Because every team and department has a different approach to work.
  • Complex structures and decision-making processes can limit opportunities for adaptation
  • No assigned desks needing to carrying your laptop and finding available seat.
  • It can take time for ideas to progress and become implemented.
  • As with bigger companies it may be difficult at it times to find information from people who do not work with you directly

Career Prospects
Promotion opportunities and chances to move up/horizontally within the company are frequent. I have seen many people (outside of the grads) get promoted and many people I have worked with getting experience in other areas.

We have a social impact team, and they do lots of great work with the community. We also have one paid volunteer day a year which is great for the community and teamwork.

Culture

Culture
The company culture is fantastic. Everyone is very welcoming of us grads and always happy to offer support if needed. In the office it is a good workplace with no shut out offices, every worker uses hotdesks. There are always deadlines to fulfil but no toxicity/bullying is used to meet those deadlines. Each team I have been a part collaborates with other teams in the company, allowing me to reconnect with colleagues and mentors from previous rotations and work with them on equal footing rather than reporting to them.

Day to day responsibilities vary from rotation to rotation. The common responsibilities throughout the rotations are working on basic tasks for the team that don't require the formal training that the experienced members of the team have, but establishes the foundation for the rest of the work the team does. Provides a good understanding of the work they do and worthwhile experience in their area.

Management
All of my managers have been extremely supportive and fantastic mentors. They're always up to act as a soundboard for any ideas I might have, actively care about and foster my learning goals and development, and always give very helpful and constructive feedback to assist my learning.

Office Work Environment
Dress code is smart casual with every Friday being a casual Friday. Office space is great, lots of desk space and two monitors. Location is in the middle of the city, easy to get here via a train and a walk. Facilities are amazing. Each level has a kitchen with a break room, with one of the buildings having very good views of the city. The other building has a complete gym in the basement with everything you need provided for you. Both are available to all employees.

Recruitment

Recruitment
The hiring process spanned four different stages: an online application, video interview, online assessments, and in-person assessment centre (including an interview). I really appreciate how clear RACV was with the stages in the process - there was never a moment where I didn't know what the next stage would be or what it would involve. All up, the hiring process took a little over two months. Who are you? What is your background? (What did you study/industry you were working in) What is your experience in? What are you passionate about? Where do you see yourself in 5 years? How did you find out about the role? What do you know of the RACV? How did you know of the RACV? What do you like to do in your spare time? Be yourself. Show us your character rather than trying to portray yourself as being the best. Read into the history of RACV, and our vision for the future - it's rich and diverse.

Training
There are lots of learning and development opportunities. For the graduates there is a graduate learning series which covers different topics such as personal branding, presentation skills, becoming a team player and several others. The organisation also has Masterclasses regularly which anyone can attend, and they are a great opportunity to learn about the business. I have found that the training in my various roles is very informal and you learn on the job.
