Summer of Tech is designed to help you get work ready and have opportunities to develop your core skills and technical skills through free workshops run by industry volunteers.

We work with diverse employers and roles across the technology industry. We welcome diverse candidates who are excited to start their career, who are curious, ready to learn and contribute as an intern or graduate.

We are an impact organisation, a registered NZ Charity, totally focused on supporting newbies into tech jobs AND supporting employers to create the best environment for interns and grads.

Recruitment Process

To apply for Summer of Tech internships:

  • Register and complete your profile! Jump onto our website here; https://app.summeroftech.co.nz/students/registration/sign_up and we will help you with reviews and feedback on your CV and cover letter.
  •  
  • Attend free workshops - loads of opportunities to learn job-ready skills and find out about technologies and tools. Delivered by industry volunteers, this is a place for you to connect with mentors and learn what employers are looking for.
  •  
  • Research and apply for roles on our web platform. Attend Meet & Greet if you can, to connect with potential employers and find out more about the roles you've applied for.

You may be invited to attend a 10 minute "speed" interviews, or in-person interviews, or do a technical test, or visit their office.

Summer internship offers are released to successful candidates after 6 October, and internships are full time from November to February (depending on your availability).

Remuneration & Career Growth

All roles are paid, and we recommend at least NZ Living Wage (currently $22.10/hour.

Last summer, the average was $23.50/hour, with a range from minimum wage to $33/hour.

The majority of interns are retained beyond summer, with advancement in responsibility and salary happening in line with tech industry standards. At the end of an internship, you could expect to be on a graduate salary, approximately $55-75K depending on the role/organisation you're working for.
