Entry Requirements

For admission as a candidate, an applicant will:

  • hold a Bachelor degree with first-class or second-class Honours (Division A) or equivalent qualification from a recognised institution; or
  • hold a Masters degree from a recognised institution or equivalent qualification deemed by the Dean, Griffith Graduate Research School to be of a standard comparable at least to a Bachelor degree with second class Honours (Division A); or
  • possess a record of research or a qualification granted by a professional or other body, deemed by the Dean, Griffith Graduate Research School to be of a standard comparable at least to a bachelors degree with second-class Honours (Division A)
  • have been enrolled in a research Masters degree at the University for not less than one year as a full-time candidate and two years as a part-time candidate and will have had their work as a research Masters candidate certified by the Dean to be of a standard required for candidature in a professional doctorate.

Students admitted to the Doctor of Visual Arts program will normally hold previous qualifications in the visual arts area.

Prospective students must confirm prior to application that their chosen project can be conducted within the appropriate concentration area (i.e. check the availability of supervision, resources etc). If specialist equipment or computer programs are required, this must be stated on the student's application form.

When applying, applicants must submit a written research proposal outlining the nature of the studio project they wish to undertake and the supporting research question for their dissertation. Applicants will also be requested to present a current folio of their most outstanding work and a curriculum vitae.

Graduate Certificate

The Graduate Certificate in Crime Scene Investigation is only available to specifically nominated officers in an approved police service as part of their mandatory professional training.
Entry Requirements

Applicants for the Graduate Certificate in Crime Scene Investigation will only be available to currently serving members of an approved police service, and will be selected by the Service. All students must have a Science degree or equivalent.

Graduate Certificate

In the Graduate Certificate, you will learn about the problem of crime in contemporary society, the role of research, policy development and evaluation, and key criminology and criminal justice issues.
Entry Requirements

All applicants to the Graduate Certificate in Criminology and Criminal Justice must have either:

  • a recognised undergraduate degree from a recognised tertiary institution
  • OR fulfil the following alternative admission criteria: in selected circumstances, applicants without a recognised undergraduate degree may apply for entry based on their work experience in a criminal justice related field.

In these circumstances the applicant must supply evidence of relevant professional registration or vocational experience in a criminal justice related field. Such applicants, who will normally have worked in middle management positions for a minimum of five years, will be required to provide references from their employers supporting their application for admission and attesting to their ability to complete the program. In these cases, the Program Director will make the final decision and must be satisfied as to the applicant's ability to complete such a course of study.

Masters (Research)

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for admission to this program, a student must fulfil the following criteria:

  • hold a Bachelor degree in medical science, biological science, pharmaceutical science or a related health discipline from Griffith University or from another university or institution with a GPA of at least 5 (using a 7-point scale) or equivalent.

In addition to the academic qualifications required for candidature as described above, the following criteria needs to be satisfied:

  • the proposed topic is appropriate for higher degree research and consonant with the academic aims and objectives of the pathway selected
  • there are two qualified members of staff holding confirmed, continuing or fixed term appointments of sufficient length for the purposes of supervision
  • the Pathway Advisor is able to provide the necessary research place, supervision, resources and facilities; and there is an appropriate fit between the applicant, research environment, available resources and supervision
  • the provision of educational services consequent upon approval of the application for candidature will not expose the University to a risk of contravening any applicable law, including any international embargoes, sanctions or controls which regulate the University's operations from time to time, and
  • the proposed program of work can be completed within the maximum period of candidature for the degree.

Applicants are required to find a suitable supervisor and have their research project approved. Applicants are advised to contact the relevant Pathway Advisor who will provide assistance in finding a suitable supervisor and developing a research proposal. Those nominating a supervisor who is not a Griffith University staff member in the supervising pathway must arrange a co-supervisor from within the selected pathway (i.e. Medical Science, Medicine, Pharmacy).

Applicants to this program are not eligible to apply for a Griffith University Postgraduate Research Scholarship (GUPRS) or Griffith University International Postgraduate Research Scholarship.

Graduate Certificate

The Graduate Certificate in Emergency Nursing program enables registered nurses to develop advanced knowledge and specialist skills in the emergency nursing environment and addresses the core competencies related to emergency nursing.
Entry Requirements

To be eligible for admission to the Graduate Certificate in Emergency Nursing, applicants must:

  • hold a Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent degree from a recognised University (or another tertiary education institution of equivalent standing)
    AND
  • current or temporary unrestricted registration as a nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
    AND
  • be working with emergency presentations for a minimum of two days per week.

Degrees from overseas institutions must be assessed as equivalent to a recognised Australian accredited qualification.

The School of Nursing and Midwifery has instituted a Recognition of Prior Experience (RPE) procedure for registered nurses who do not have an undergraduate qualification. Applicants will be assessed on their ability to demonstrate eligibility requirements. This program is designed to provide students with an opportunity to undertake advanced study and supervised research work in the specialisation defined by their undergraduate degree program within the context of a multidisciplinary cohort.
Entry Requirements

The University's Bachelor Honours Degree (AQF Level 8) Policy will apply.

The criteria for admission to this Honours program are:

  • successful completion of the Bachelor of Pharmacy (1395) or an equivalent qualification;
  • a GPA of at least 5.0 over the second, third and fourth year of the bachelor degree (excluding clinical placement courses).

The Program Director will take the following into consideration when assessing applications for admission:

  • the suitability of the proposed dissertation topic;
  • the resources available to support the candidature including availability of appropriate supervision;
  • the preparedness of the applicant to undertake the degree in terms of the elapsed time since the prospective candidate qualified for the award of a bachelor degree and the academic preparation provided by the bachelor degree for the candidate's proposed dissertation topic.
